FYI, The photo on your websight has the men disembarking onto Omaha...any idea the unit of soldiers disembarking. I am trying to identify to determine the beach. Why, because those AA halftracks in the water may have my dad with the 197th AAA in one. Any info would be great! thanks for all the effort. Also, if you have a roster of what units the LCI's carried onto Omaha, please email it. I'm researching and pulling together an ID list of the boats assigned to specific units at Omaha on 6/6/44. Thanks

I am writing to all of you who visit this site, on behalf of the Amphibious Forces Memorial Museum as it's volunteers continue their restoration efforts of LCI 713. (Visit the website at to check on ongoing efforts to save the 713).

The Amphibious Forces Memorial Museum is located in Portland, Oregon and is dedicated to remembering the great contributions made by U.S. Navy personnel of WWII that sailed into harms way aboard LCIs, as well as the many Marines and Soldiers that they carried into battle. These little ships and the men that bravely served aboard them sailed, under armed, under powered and under armored into some of the greatest battles of WWII from Sicily to Normandy, from Iwo Jima to the assault on Okinawa, while transporting men and material and providing fire support under the worst conditions.

This group is dedicated to preserving both memory and history paying tribute to a group of heroes, those living and those forever at rest, who proudly served their country and asked for nothing more then to return home to enjoy the very freedoms that they so willingly sacrificed for.

I am hoping that LCI vets and especially their family members would consider helping in this effort because we do need your help to succeed.

To contribute to this effort please go to the Amphibious Forces Memorial Museum website and click on the "donations" link. For the AFMM:Richard I. Levine, D.C. (Son of MOMM3 Henry Levine LCI(L)606)

I would first like to pay my respects to all the brave people who serve in our corps. My emotions linger with the men from the II World War primarily because of the (only the good) memories my father offered to us as children. He was the type of man you wanted to know everything about.

I was looking for some information concerning my father (George Harold Hansen) or his ship the LCI (L) gunboat#69 ? Some information I have found.. His Commanders nick name .."Squad Dog Holmes".. Thier turret was painted with a naked woman wearing a sailor cap musketeer boots and holding on to a Japanese figure. They had a small rat terrier called Poontang.. at one time a small mascot monkey.. they were in the Pacific theater..1943-45 I have a copy of the Hot Rod Journal"69" boat Growl:
"The Americans ??? the harbor and airport of Saidor and trapping Japanese forces between them and the Australians advancing up the coast of Huon Peninsula. General MacArthur announced today."
I have many pictures of the crew on the ship and on leave in Frisco. My father was very proud of his time with these men on this ship I would like to include as much history as I can for my sons and thier children. Thank you for such a wonderful web site..any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
